Jesse and I spent the first week in Santiago and then we decided to rent a van and head towards the coast. We rented an Airbnb in Valparaiso and explored from there.
Valparaiso is a port city that is built up into hills that surrounds the coast. It’s known for it’s bohemian, artistic vibe and colonial architecture. You can find murals and colorful homes all over Valparaiso. Oh and dogs, there are dogs EVERYWHERE here. The dogs seem to have their own “dog packs” they belong to and different neighborhoods they navigate through. The neighborhoods take care of the dogs and make sure they are fed and looked after.
We wanted to head to the Atacama desert to try some sand boarding, but unfortunately, the desert was way to far from where we were located. We were told there were sand dunes in Concon that offered sand boarding, it just wouldn’t be as intense as in the desert. This was a pretty cool experience. There were lots of people here who rent boards (that look like snowboards), climb to the top of the sand dune and board down. Jesse had lots of fun doing this and it was rather entertaining to watch!
We took it pretty easy when we were here and spent most of our time driving around, getting some sun and eating food! There isn’t much to blog about from this part of the trip, so here are some pictures!
(This was the closest we came to Easter Island!)
